Subsite Complete!

Wow, this site was way more work than I thought it was going to be! I've spent the better part of a week designing, building and writing it, so I sure hope people find it useful!

Now that the site is complete, it's time to write up a review of Light CMS and announce this little subsite to the world via FreelanceSwitch and submission to CSS galleries.

If you've enjoyed the site, don't forget to leave a comment on FreelanceSwitch to let me know, it'd be nice to hear that all this work really was done for good purpose :-)

Awesome! Was just thinking of other methods for creating passive income for myself other than monetizing my sites (something I've been trying to avoid lately).

I've just done some quick scans, but it all looks very promising. Great job!

You should upload your Light CMS files on here. I'm trying feverishly to learn all I can to make pages in Light. On a scale of 1-10, how much knowledge do you need for CSS and XHTML?

Wooow..nice write up.

I want to do the stock business, but my hourly freelancing is taking a lot my free time.

Thanks for the heads up :)

I've been a freelancer and decided to freelance in my spare time and start a career where I could use my freelancing (Web dev) skills. The reason I did this is similar to what Kuswanto wrote:
"I want to do the stock business, but my hourly freelancing is taking a lot my free time." Now I have 9-5 income, I can spend spare time developing a Web business (part-4). This is working well because as you know, freelancing can take more than 8 hours a day and leave you no spare time. Now I have set work hours and can plan my Web business on the side.

I think this site is great because you have detailed the different options freelancers can consider. I've considered many of these, but seeing them separated has helped me define what I'm doing as a 'Web business' as opposed to the others.

Keep up the good work.

Hey - I LOVE your site! Great job! I heard about you from the radio show you did recently at Jenerous. I'd love to have you on the ARRiiVE: Innovations in Business TalkShoe show as a special guest, if you're interested. It's a great way to build reusable audio and increase your exposure. In addition, if you'd like to contribute a post to the http://arriive.blogspot.com blog about Freelancing, it is a topic that would catch many of my reader's eyeballs, for sure. Hit me up at ARRiiVE or through the blog and let me know what resonates.

Cheers -

Earnt income sucks. Its long, its tiresome and its a drag.

Ive worked towards positioning myself to live off passive income for the past 4 years and finally its starting to move in that direction.

Currently making 4 figures a fortnight - yay!

This is one awesome subsite/article!
It really gives me an impression how to earn some passive income.
Since I'm still a student (ie. don't have much spare time but always in need for money), I really like the idea of creating stock stuff, like vectors and website templates.

I've been reading quite a lot of your blogs/articles the last couple of days and your writing style really impressed me! It's all very clear, even for beginners like me.

What I really like about this subsite is the option to download it as a pdf-version. I like to read articles from print better than from screen.

Ciao,
Ard

Hi,

Great site, nice pointers, clean simple layout. Can I suggest adding comments to the pages, though? It would be nice to add contextual commentary for the different parts of the series.

On your last page, you mention the trials of running a hosting business. I've gone through this process recently, and now host most of my development projects.

My operation isn't big enough to warrant any support staff (yet), so it's just little old me. But with the right tools, you can emulate the effectiveness of a full support department. Installing a panel for managing the ISP part of it is essential.

ISP/CP Omega does a good job of this, if a little buggy in places.

Install a monitoring system like Nagios, Centreon, etc so you know instantly when there's a problem.

And if support gets too much, there's ZenDesk. I haven't given them a try yet, but they seem like a good, cheap safety net that is used by some big names.

And get an invoicing system in place from the start! Zoho Invoices does this quite well at a good price.

Outsource everything! :)

PS: I'm not affiliated with any of these products...
